Infant & Toddler Room

Learning through Routine Activities

Caring for infants and toddlers necessitates tailored routines and schedules based on each child's unique needs. Typically, the younger the child, the more flexible the schedule should be. Caregivers must be attuned to the child’s biological rhythms and interests.

Daily Activities

Throughout the day, your child may engage in various routines, including:

• Greetings and farewells

• Diaper changes and toilet time

• Meals and snack times

• Rest and nap periods

• Getting dressed

• Playtime with toys

• Pretend play and imitation

• Enjoying stories and books

• Musical activities and movement

• Exploring art

• Outdoor exploration and play

Ideal Schedule Characteristics

An appropriate schedule should exhibit these qualities:

• Flexibility to meet the child's individual needs

• Unhurried, allowing children to relish daily routines

• Adequate time for routines, play, and transitions

• Balancing active and quiet periods

• Opportunities for solitary play or supervised interaction

• Small group activities involving 2-3 children

• Outdoor activities twice a day

Learning and Development

At Linda's House, we plan curricular calendars, providing parents/guardians with insights into the themes and concepts being covered. Here are examples of skills addressed, dependent on your child’s developmental stage:

  • Self-Help Skills: Introducing dressing and removing shoes and socks.
  • Numbers: Introducing numbers 1-20 through engaging games, songs, and hands-on activities.
  • Colors: Introducing eight basic colors - red, blue, green, yellow, orange, purple, brown, and black.
  • Shapes: Introducing four basic shapes (circle, square, triangle, and rectangle) through interactive games and puzzles.
  • Small-Motor Skills: Enhancing hand coordination through playful activities involving materials like playdough, puzzles, finger play, art, and scissors.
  • Large-Motor Skills: Engaging children in activities such as running, hopping on two feet, and climbing.
  • Language Arts: Improving language skills through play and storytime, fostering awareness of general body parts.
  • Seasons: Introducing weather characteristics - wind, rain, snow, and sun - leading to discussions about clothing and its purpose.
  • Art/Crafts: Creating simple crafts and participating in activities using a variety of materials for creative expression.
